I’m a BIG believer in asking questions. Let me clarify that, I’m a BIG believer in asking the right questions. Whether it’s making a buying decision, a hiring decision or a time management decision – asking the right questions can make all the difference between success and disappointment.
A great example of asking the right question can be found in this old story.
There is a young man walking in a park when he sees an attractive young woman sitting on a bench reading a book. A very large dog is lying on the ground next to her. Looking for a way to strike up a conversation with the woman the young man asks, “Does your dog bite?” She looks at him, smiles and responds, “No, my dog doesn’t bite.”
The young man bends over the dog and begins to stick out his hand to pet the dog’s head. The moment the young man brings his hand toward the dog, the dog jumps up and takes a big bite out of the man’s hand. “Hey!” the young man screams at the woman. “I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite.”
“He doesn’t,” the young woman snaps back angrily. “That’s not my dog.”
Need I say more? Let me ask you a question: Are you asking the right questions?
