Are You Keeping Up with the Changing Times?

woman's hands using ipadAre you keeping up with the newest technology, the latest books and modern innovations in health and science? I’m not asking if you study the high tech journals or read every new business book on the market. I’m asking if you’re keeping up personally and professionally with the changing times.

Personally –
• Do you own an eReader?
• Do you have a Smart Phone?
• Do you watch an HD television?

Professionally –
• Do you have a YouTube account?
• Are you using Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest?
• Do you know how to use Google Hangouts?

Honestly, I can answer “yes” to three out of the six questions. No, I don’t own an eReader. We don’t have an HD TV. I’m not sure how to use Google Hangouts. But, I know they are a big part of our society and I should at least understand something about the impact they are having on my life and business.

Keeping current with the changes that impact our lives and business is an important part of going positively and productively forward. We can’t remain “stuck” in the way things used to be because times are changing rapidly. I’m not saying go out and buy every new device or gadget. But we should at least become aware of the changing world and how these changes affect the way we’re living life and working our businesses.

Here’s a challenge for you: Within the next 30 days, choose one new thing you’ve been meaning to try and give it a try. Example – If you’ve been meaning to place a video on YouTube, open a YouTube account and post a couple of business-building videos or a video message for your family.

Staying stuck in the past isn’t going help us move forward in empowering ways. Embrace change and try at least one new thing this coming month that will improve your personal life or, the way you’re currently doing business. I’m a big believer that no matter our age, comfort zones are meant to be expanded!

After 15 years, working in a school district that was cutting edge in technology, I know how important it is to try to keep pace with the rapid changes in technology. Moore’s Law indicates that technology becomes obsolete every 18 months, and manufacturers depend on this!

I think it’s easy to let negative self-talk seep in when we start feeling like we’re not staying on top of technology. But, staying “on top” of technology is nearly impossible because of the rapid rate of change. We all need to do what you suggested: try ONE new thing each month, then celebrate our courage for taking a risk.

Personally, I am looking into creating a class to put on http://www.udemy.com and updating my LinkeIn sight.

      Tricia
      Great goals!!!

I don’t try to keep up with everything – I keep up with what it takes to grow my business online and offline. That keeps me busy enough.

I have all of those. I’m working on learning about podcasts and how to do them.
