Mindset and Goal Achieving – How Important is It?

I grew up with more of a “wishing” attitude than an “I can make it happen” mindset. I never understood how much my mindset influenced my choices, my belief system and even my goal achieving until I started reading some of the classic “self-help” books.

Television introduced me to the power of positive thinking. Yes, television. I saw a late night infomercial for a book and audio set called Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It was a transitional time for my husband and me so we decided to ask for the Think and Grow Rich book and audio set as a holiday gift.

GOALS

That gift changed our lives forever. My husband and I discovered that we control our consistent thoughts and our consistent thoughts control how we view the world and how we view the world controls our mindset about the future.

Through reading and practice, my mindset gradually changed from wishing and hoping to goal setting and goal achieving.

That powerful mindset shift made the difference between spending my time being reactive to my life to becoming more proactive and solution-oriented – that is a HUGE mindset shift.

I continued reading and studying, in fact I am still reading and learning. I want to share some books I’ve enjoyed – the ones that have helped me fine-tune my goal achieving mindset:

1. Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill – I recommend both the classic edition and the revised and expanded edition by Dr. Arthur R. Pell

2. The Magic of Thinking Big – David J. Schwartz

3. Psycho-Cybernetics – Maxwell Maltz

4. Awaken the Giant Within – Anthony Robbins

5. The Magic of Believing – Claude M. Bristol

6. 21 Days to Living Your Dreams – Sharon Michaels

Here’s my challenge for you: Choose one of these books to read each month for the next six months. Read each book with pen and paper. Make notes and jot down ideas about how you can use what you’re learning to fine-tune your goal achieving mindset.
I’d even recommend you begin a positive mindset journal and at the end of each day or week, write down how you’ve put into action what you’re reading.

As Maxwell Maltz writes in his book Psycho-Cybernetics, “Human beings always act and feel and perform in accordance with what they imagine to be true about themselves and their environment.” Do you have a consistent goal achieving mindset?

Please, share your thoughts and comments with us. We’d love to hear from you.

Here’s to making your awesome goals reality,
