In a survey conducted by the Ken Blanchard Companies 2,004 respondents were asked the following questions:

1. What is the biggest mistake leaders make when working with others?
2. What is the most critical skill a leader can possess when working with others?
3. What are the top five things leaders most often fail to do when working with others?

Here are a brief summary of the results:

Question #1 – Inappropriate use of communication or listening – 41%
Question #2 – Communication/listening – 43%
Question #3 – Failing to provide appropriate feedback (praise, recognition) – 82% and
almost a tie with
Failing to listen – 81%

Communication ranked the highest answer in all three questions!

Bottom Line: The ability to communicate appropriately is an essential component for effective leadership.
