What Is Your Future?

Today’s post is written by guest blogger Sherry Martin.

One discovery in human history is that you become what you think about. There is a saying: Thoughts become things. As a business person, you are considered to be a leader. What do leaders think about most of the time? They think about the future, where they are going, and what they need to do to get there. Non-leaders think about the present, and worry about past events that cannot be changed.

steps to goals

As business people when we begin to think about our future, we begin to think like a leader. Dr. Edward Banfield of Harvard University defined this type of thinking as the “ability to think several years in the future while making decisions in the present.” This means that the further you think into the future, the better decisions you will make in the present to assure future plans become a reality.

It is important to decide what you really want before you deal with your present situation. You need to have a crystal-clear vision of what you want to accomplish in your life.

This vision can be in different areas such as:
• Business & Career.
• Family Life & Relationships
• Ideal Health & Fitness
• Social, Church, & Community Involvement

The difference between leaders and non-leaders is action. Steady, consistent action each and everyday. Non-leaders are full of good intentions, and seldom have a plan to achieve these intentions. Leaders on the other hand know exactly what they want, and where they are going. They have a timetable for accomplishing their vision.

No one can set goals for you – only you can do that. Set goals in those four different areas for three months, six months, and a year from now. Have a timetable for reaching those goals.

When you have clear, exciting goals, you feel happier and more self-confident. You will feel more optimistic and positive. It will be exciting to get up in the morning. Each and every day, you will be moving in the direction of something that is important to you.

So what are you waiting for? Think about the future, set realistic goals, make a plan, and get busy!

Having a vision and focusing on achieving it follows along with thoughts becoming things. Writing clear, concise goals provides the road map and helps you stay the course as you travel on the journey toward your vision.
